Located in north western corner of San Diego, Carmel Valley is a destination suburb, home to rustic master-planned communities, stunning beaches, and affluent culture.
Geographically south of Del Mar only a 30 minute drive from Downtown San Diego, Carmel Valley is a great family-friendly blend of San Diego’s unique urban beach culture mixed with the “wine tasting and horse racing” of Del Mar.
Carmel Valley was officially created in 1975 and named for the patroness of the Carmelite Sisters who established a dairy farm in the region in 1905. The actual construction of Carmel Valley that San Diegan’s know and love consequently began in 1983 and although a newer neighborhood in the greater San Diego Area, its reputation precedes it.

Locals appreciate the area for it’s great schools, community centers, and low crime rates, making it a sought-after location for young families. Carmel Valley also boasts upscale shopping centers and some of San Diego’s most famed eateries, such as Snooze, Urban Plates, and Prep Kitchen, to name a few.
The Torrey Pines State Reserve is located only 10 minutes from Carmel Valley and includes the Torrey Pines State Beach and hiking trails. If you’re adventurous, a 5 minute drive will land you at the Del Mar Dog Beach. If luxury is more your thing, be sure to visit Del Mar City Beach, a relaxing spot locals swear by. It’s perfect for picnicking or wave watching, and, being only a few minutes walk from downtown Del Mar, exemplifies the close relationship with the Del Mar area.
The curb appeal of Carmel Valley is best defined by tree lined streets, Spanish style newer-build homes, and expanses of open and natural space. The master-planned communities, plethora of parks, and local boutiques certainly encourage a sense of community.
